Yehoshua. Y. (Josh) Zeevi

Cortica, Co-Founder & Chief Scientist

Professor Josh Zeevi received his B.Sc. degree in EE from the Technion and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. He was subsequently a Vinton Hayes Fellow and faculty member at the Division of Applied Sciences of Harvard University and, simultaneously, a Fellow-at-large at the MIT-NRP program. Upon joining the Technion Faculty of EE, he established there the multidisciplinary field and research center devoted to Vision and Image Sciences. In 1988 he became the incumbent of the Norman and Barbara Seiden Chair in Computer Sciences. He was a Visiting Professor at MIT on a joint appointment with Harvard University, Rutgers and Columbia Universities, where he maintains a courtesy appointment. He served as the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. He also served on national and international committees, including the Technion Board of Governors and various committees of the Israeli Council of Higher Education. As part of his academic contributions he co-authored over 450 journal and conference publications, and technical reports, and supervised over 90 dissertations. He is the co-founder of the Journal of Visual Communication and Image Representation and served as its Editor-in-Chief. He is presently the Head of the Ollendorff Minerva Center for Vision and Image Sciences. His work on automatic gain control in vision led him to the co-founding of i Sight; a startup company that developed an Adaptive Sensitivity Camera that mimic the eye in its high dynamic range. He later co-founded three other startup companies and co-invented new technologies protected by over 200 patents and patent applications. In 2007 he co-founded with Igal Raichelgauz and Karina Odinaev the startup Cortica Ltd., where the three founders developed the most advanced technology for real time image understanding by computers, based on neurobiology of the cortex. He serves as the Chief Scientist of Cortica.

Dr. Chii-Wann Lin is the Vice President and General Director of Biomedical Technology and Device Research Laboratories, Industrial Technology Research Institute. He received Ph.D. degree from CWRU, USA in 1993. He joined the Center for Biomedical Engineering, College of Medicine, National Taiwan University since Sept. 1993. He is now a full professor in Institute of Biomedical Engineering and holds joint appointments in both Department of Electrical Engineering and Institute of Applied Mechanics, and Department of Engineering science and Ocean Engineering, NTU. He is also a member of IEEE EMBS and Chinese BMES. He was the President of Taiwan Association of Chemical Sensors (ACST) from 2008-2010 and served as the chairperson for international steering committee of ACCS 2013 and ACCS 2015. His laboratory has devoted to apply microfabrication technologies and optical sensing mechanisms to develop nano/micro sensors and integrated system for the medical applications with compliance of medical device regulations and standards. Current focus areas include the development of novel Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) devices and the heterogeneous integration of micro-system for disease diagnosis and neuromodulaiton. The goal is to develop cost effective and user-friendly medical devices toward the success of personalized medicine and e-health. He has served as technical advisor in two medical device startup companies based on technology transfer from his research outcomes of Chaotic Phase Space Difference (CPSD) and implantable pain control by Pulsed Radiofrequency (PRF).
